Chemical Analysis (OES / Spectro)

Quantitative elemental composition analysis using Optical Emission Spectrometry.

What It Measures

Chemical analysis determines the exact percentage of each element present in a metal sample. For aluminium alloys, this means verifying Mg, Si, Cu, Zn, Fe, and other elements against the grade specification. The test uses a spark-based OES spectrometer that excites the metal surface and reads the emission spectrum to identify elemental composition within seconds.

Why It Matters

Grade fraud is the single biggest procurement risk in the Indian metals market. A chemical analysis is the definitive way to confirm that the material you received is actually the grade you ordered. Without it, 6082 sold as 6061 — or worse, off-spec material sold as aerospace-grade — goes undetected until a part fails in service.

Standard Followed

ASTM E1251 / IS 504

Equipment Used

Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES) with argon purge, calibrated against CRMs (Certified Reference Materials).

When You Need It

  • Every aerospace or defense part (mandatory under most AS specs)
  • Any time you suspect grade substitution
  • When the MTC is missing or looks templated
  • First order from a new supplier or make
  • Critical structural components where failure is not an option
