Titanium
Titanium Grade 2 (Commercially Pure)
Commercially pure titanium. Immune to seawater, the chemical-equipment workhorse.
Titanium Grade 2 is the most-used commercially pure (CP) titanium. Forms a passive TiO₂ layer giving immunity to seawater corrosion and excellent resistance to oxidising acids. The standard for chemical heat exchangers, marine fasteners, surgical instruments, and architectural cladding.

Use Cases
Chemical equipment
Heat exchanger tubing in sour gas, chlorine, hypochlorite. Forms passive TiO₂ layer; immune to seawater corrosion.
Medical & dental
Surgical instruments, dental implant abutments, body-piercings (allergy-free).
Marine fasteners
Cryogenic-stable, does not gall, lifetime in seawater service.
Architectural cladding
Frank Gehry-style titanium panels (anodised colour finishes).
Design Notes
- Welding: GTAW with matching Gr2 filler under inert gas trail shield (≥ 600 °C cooldown in argon to prevent oxygen/hydrogen pickup).
- Cost: ~5× SS 316 in India. Justified only where corrosion service makes 316 fail.
